An accent wall is the fastest way to give a room character. It's also the easiest one to get wrong. Off-the-shelf paneling kits leave gaps at the ceiling, fight your baseboards, and read as a weekend project. We build accent walls the way a finish carpenter should: scribed to the ceiling, mitered around outlets and trim, and painted or stained so the surface looks like it was framed with the house.

We work in every style Jacksonville and St. Johns County homeowners ask for: clean modern slat walls, traditional board & batten, classic shiplap, picture-frame wainscoting, and warm fluted wood. Whether it's a statement wall behind the bed, an entryway focal point, or a full dining-room feature, we measure, build, and finish it in your home.

What we build

Shiplap & nickel-gap

Crisp horizontal lines, consistent reveals, and tight ceiling and corner cuts, painted in your color.

Board & batten

Symmetrical layout planned to your wall's exact dimensions, with a capped top rail and clean baseboard integration.

Vertical & fluted slat

Modern slat and fluted wood walls in painted or natural stain, with hidden fasteners and a furniture-grade finish.

Wainscoting & picture-frame

Traditional paneled detail and applied molding that suits historic Riverside and San Marco homes as easily as new construction.

Planning your project

What drives the price

Wall size and style are the two biggest factors: flat shiplap and board & batten take less material and labor than slat and fluted walls, which are built piece by piece. Stained finishes cost more than painted because they require select hardwood, and working around TVs, outlets, or stairs adds layout time. You get one all-in price at the consultation: materials, build, and finish included.

Timeline

Most accent walls are built and finished in one to two days on-site. Larger designs (stairwells, double-height walls, or walls integrated with a media built-in) can run longer, and we confirm the schedule before work starts.

Materials & finish

Painted walls are typically built from paint-grade MDF and poplar, which stay flat and take a sprayed finish beautifully; stained walls use real hardwood like white oak, because stain needs grain. Everything is caulked, filled, sanded, and painted or stained in place.

Care & maintenance

A finished accent wall needs the same care as your trim: dust it, wipe painted surfaces with a damp cloth, and keep strong cleaners off stained wood. Keep a small amount of the paint or stain on hand for touch-ups years down the line. We leave you the exact color codes.

Questions, answered

Accent Walls, explained.

How much does a custom accent wall cost in Jacksonville?

Most accent walls AVP Construction JAX builds fall in a range that depends on the wall size, the style (slat and fluted walls take more material and labor than flat shiplap), and the paint or stain finish. We give you one all-in price during an in-home consultation: materials, build, and finish included.

How long does it take to install an accent wall?

A typical accent wall is built and finished in one to two days. We do the work on-site so the wall is scribed to your ceiling and trim, then paint or stain in place.

Can you build an accent wall around a TV, outlets, or a thermostat?

Yes. We mock up the layout so the design works around your TV, outlets, switches, and vents. We can also integrate the accent wall directly into a TV entertainment center if you'd like the two to read as one built-in.

Do you paint and finish the accent wall too?

Yes. AVP builds and finishes the wall, including caulking, filling, sanding, and painting or staining, so you get a complete, move-in-ready feature wall, not raw material to finish yourself.
