Walk into any kitchen that stops people mid-sentence and there's almost always a custom hood over the range. It's the one element that breaks up the run of upper cabinets and gives the kitchen a focal point — and it's also the piece most production builders skip, leaving a bare microwave or a stock stainless canopy where the centerpiece should be.

We build custom wood vent hood covers around your ventilation insert: clean tapered boxes, curved and flared profiles, shiplap and paneled fronts, and hoods wrapped in stained oak or painted to match or contrast your cabinetry. The hood is sized to your range and ceiling height, vented correctly through the insert you choose, and finished in place so it looks like the kitchen was designed around it — because now it is.

What we build

Painted hood surrounds

Tapered, straight, and flared hood boxes painted to match or deliberately contrast your cabinetry.

Stained wood hoods

White oak and stained hood covers that bring warmth into a painted kitchen — with matching shelf or corbel details.

Insert coordination

Built around the vent insert and ducting you choose, with proper clearances to the range below.

Trim & strapping details

Shiplap fronts, banding, corbels, and crown details that tie the hood into the rest of the kitchen's trim.

Planning your project

What drives the price

Shape and finish drive a custom hood's price: a straight tapered box costs less than curved or flared profiles, and stained hardwood wraps cost more than paint. The vent insert — the mechanical unit inside — is a separate purchase we help you size to your range. One all-in price covers the build and finish.

Timeline

Most custom hood covers are built and finished in one to two days once the insert and ducting are in place. If electrical or duct work is needed first, we sequence those trades before our build so the hood goes on finished infrastructure.

Materials & finish

Hood boxes are framed light and skinned in paint-grade stock or wrapped in stained hardwood like white oak, with trim details — banding, corbels, shiplap — matched to the kitchen. Clearances to the cooktop follow the insert manufacturer's requirements.

Care & maintenance

Wipe the hood exterior with a damp cloth as part of normal kitchen cleaning — sprayed enamel and finished wood both handle kitchen air fine when the insert's filters are doing their job. Clean or replace the insert's grease filters on the manufacturer's schedule; that's what keeps the wood pristine.

Questions, answered

Custom Vent Hoods, explained.

Do you supply the vent insert, or just the wood hood cover?

We build the custom wood cover and coordinate around the vent insert — the mechanical unit that actually moves the air. Most clients purchase the insert we recommend for their range size, and we size and build the hood around it with the correct clearances.

Can the hood match my existing cabinets?

Yes. We can paint the hood to match your cabinetry exactly, finish it in a contrasting color, or wrap it in stained wood like white oak for a two-tone look — whichever suits the kitchen. We match sheen and profile details so it reads as part of the original design.

How much does a custom vent hood cost?

A custom hood is priced by its size, shape (straight boxes are simpler than curved or flared profiles), and finish, plus the insert you select. We give you one all-in price for the build and finish at your in-home consultation.

How long does a custom vent hood take to install?

Most custom hood covers are built and finished in one to two days on-site once the insert and ducting are in place. We confirm scheduling around any electrical or ducting work your kitchen needs.
