Custom Closet Organizer Replaces Builder Wire Shelves in Fruit Cove, FL
The Project
This job was in Fruit Cove, right here in 32259, St. John's, Florida. The homeowners had a couple of bedroom closets running on standard builder-grade wire shelving. That single white wire rack and a hanging rod is what you get in almost every production home in St. John's County. It checks a box. It does not work well. The family wanted to actually use their closet space, and they called us to make that happen.

The Challenge
Wire shelving looks simple, but pulling it out cleanly is where a lot of guys make their first mistake. Those brackets anchor into studs and drywall anchors, and when you yank them without thinking, you take the drywall with you. We took our time removing everything, patched what needed patching, and started with a clean box. That foundation matters more than anything that goes in afterward.
The other challenge was making the most of a narrow closet footprint. Not a walk-in. A standard reach-in. Getting real functionality out of that space means the layout has to be deliberate. Every inch counts.
The Build
We went with a center tower unit featuring adjustable shelving on pin holes from top to bottom, so the spacing can move as needs change. Below the shelving section: three drawers with shaker-style drawer fronts and matte black hardware. Clean contrast against the white finish. No filler pieces, no gaps.
Here you can see the center tower going in, shelves starting to get seated, drawer boxes taking shape. The hardware was still getting sorted at this stage, hence the temp pulls you see in that shot. We always finalize hardware last, after everything is square and level.
On either side of the center tower we built hang sections. Double hang on one side for shorter items, single hang on the other for longer pieces. The rods are matte black steel, matching the drawer pulls. That detail matters more than people think. When the hardware reads as one decision across the whole closet, the whole thing feels intentional.
The adjustable shelf pins are drilled on 32mm centers down both vertical panels of the tower. That's not an accident. It means every shelf position is consistent, and if the homeowners want to shift a shelf three inches lower next year, it lines up perfectly. Cheap installs use random hole spacing and you can never get a shelf to sit where you actually want it.
The Result
Look at what that closet became.
Three drawers at the base. Four adjustable shelves in the tower above them. Full hang rod running the width on each side. Matte black hardware throughout. All white, all clean, all built to actually hold a wardrobe.
From this angle you see how the tower anchors the whole space. The shelving runs tight to the side wall, the hang rod on the left sits at the right height for jackets and longer items, and the drawer fronts line up flush. No wobble. No visible gaps at the wall.
And here's the full picture from the door: double hang on the left, the center tower to the right with its shelves and drawers, and a secondary single-hang section for longer pieces. That's a lot of organized storage out of what was a wire-shelf reach-in closet in a Fruit Cove bedroom.
The homeowners in this part of Northeast Florida now open that closet door and everything has a place. That's the whole job. Doing it right the first time.
“I found AVP through instagram. Despite some communication errors, the vision we had for our entertainment center exceeded our expectations. Artem and his crew did a fabulous job. They were punctual, meticulous, and responsive to our needs. I was surprised with their willingness to make sure our couches were covered and cleaned up after themselves. We highly recommend AVP and are planning on using them again for future projects!”
