Custom TV Entertainment Center with LED Lighting in Sabal Estates, St. Augustine, FL

The Project

This one came to us from a homeowner in Sabal Estates, one of the established residential communities in St. Augustine, Florida. The master bedroom had real potential. Tray ceiling, luxury vinyl plank flooring, clean white walls. But the feature wall felt unfinished. A flat-mounted TV floated on a plain white surface with nothing behind it, and the homeowner knew that wall could carry more. He wanted a full custom TV entertainment center built to match the modern space he was putting together around it.

The before photo shows exactly what we were working with. A TV mounted straight to drywall, a few paint swatches tested on either side, and nothing else. No storage. No depth. No focal point. Just a screen on a wall. From there, the direction was clear.

The Challenge

The challenge here wasn't structural. It was compositional. The homeowner had a flat wall in his master bedroom and wanted a genuinely modern design element that didn't feel forced. The room already ran a calm, neutral palette, so whatever we built had to feel deliberate: warm natural tones in the millwork, layered lighting that could shift the mood on command, and clean lines all the way through.

Getting floating cabinetry, a slat accent panel, open display shelving, and LED backlighting behind a recessed panel to read as one built-in instead of a collection of parts takes real planning. Every component had to be sized, leveled, and anchored on its own while still lining up as a single unit. And on a Sabal Estates wall that isn't enormous, every inch had to earn its place.

The Build

The floating media cabinet went up first. Long and low, European-style, warm light oak, push-to-open flat-front doors. In the during photo below you can see it hung and level on the wall, tools still on the floor, the TV still in its original position above. Even at that stage the wall had more weight and purpose. But it was only the foundation.

From there we built out the vertical tower on the left. An open-shelf display unit framed in matching oak, with individual cubby openings sized to hold decor and take light from within. That shelving column anchors the whole composition and gives the wall dimension it simply didn't have before.

Then the slat accent panel. Vertical wood slats wrap from the display tower across the center of the wall, partially framing the TV zone. Slats give you texture and shadow that a flat surface can't. And they carry the natural wood tones of the cabinetry across the TV wall without feeling heavy.

The TV panel itself is a framed rectangular surround, set slightly in from the main wall surface. That reveal gave us the depth to run LED strip lighting all the way around the perimeter. The backlit glow is what pulls the whole entertainment center together, and the system is fully color-adjustable. Warm amber for a movie night. Vivid teal or electric blue when the mood calls for it. Every open shelf in the tower got its own internal LED as well, so each cubby reads as its own lit display.

Here's the entertainment center with the LEDs dialed to warm amber. The slat panel, the floating cabinet, and the lit shelving read as one piece. Tight reveals, flush door fronts, consistent shadow lines between every element. That's what separates a real built-in from anything pulled off a showroom floor.

The Result

What was a forgettable blank wall in this Sabal Estates master bedroom is now the wall the rest of the room orients around. The custom entertainment center delivers on every goal. Modern European styling. Warm natural wood. Real storage behind flat-front cabinetry. And LED lighting that can change the character of the room entirely.

This wider angle shows the full composition with the LEDs set to teal. The four lit cubbies in the display tower glow evenly, the slat panel runs graphic depth down the center, and the floating media console grounds it all at the right height. The tray ceiling and LVP flooring that were already in the room now feel like they were always meant to frame this built-in.

Switch the LEDs to deep blue and the whole room changes again. The backlighting wraps the TV panel cleanly with no hot spots, the shelving tower glows evenly shelf by shelf, and the warm oak millwork holds its own against the cool light. A built-in that looks completely different depending on the setting is exactly what homeowners in St. Augustine are asking for. It's what we built here in St. John's County.

Up close, the work speaks for itself. The LED channel around the TV panel is crisp and evenly lit. The slat panel is tight and uniform. The floating cabinet sits dead level with shadow gaps consistent end to end. This is the kind of custom millwork that adds real value to a home. You see it on the wall, and you feel it in how the room actually works day to day.
