Laundry Room Cabinet & Storage Upgrade in Mill Creek, St. Johns, FL in Mill creek, St. John’s, FL

The Project

This laundry room is in Mill Creek, right here in St. Johns, Florida. Small space, front-load machines, and a family that needed real storage. The ask was straightforward: pull out the builder-grade wire shelving, add upper cabinets, and make the room look like it was actually designed instead of thrown together at the end of a build.

That wire shelf situation is everywhere in St. Johns County. Builders drop it in because it's fast and cheap. It's not because it works.

The Challenge

The before photo says it all. A wood counter over the machines, a single wire shelf running wall to wall, and everything the family needed to store just stacked on top of each other in baskets. No doors. No real organization. Just controlled chaos sitting at eye level every time you walked in.

The room itself is tight. Wall-to-wall space above front-load machines doesn't leave much room for error. Cabinet placement had to be deliberate, and the open shelf in the middle between the two upper cabinets had to land at the right height to actually be useful, not just decorative.

The Build

We pulled the wire shelving out first. Then we went to work mounting the upper shaker cabinets on each side of the back wall. White shaker doors, flat panel inset style, with matte black hardware. Clean against a white wall. The cabinets sit flush and level, which in a room this size you notice immediately if they're off even slightly.

During

In the during photo you can see where we were mid-install: cabinets hung, the open wood shelf between them taking shape with the raw edge still visible before finishing. The machines are covered and protected. That's not an accident. We cover everything before we start cutting or painting, and we clean up before we leave. Every time.

That center open shelf got a dark walnut-finish wood panel that ties directly into the butcher block counter sitting on top of the machines. One material. Two places. The whole room pulls together because of it. No one told us to do that. We just looked at what was already there and made the decision.

The countertop over the machines was already in place and worth keeping. Rich dark wood grain, good depth. With the white cabinets framing it above and the dark machines below, the contrast works exactly the way it should.

The Result

Doors closed, the room looks like a different house. The clutter that was living on that wire shelf is now behind cabinet doors. The open center shelf gives them one spot to stage things without the whole room looking like a supply closet.

After

Look at the after photo. Two white shaker cabinets flanking a dark open shelf. Walnut counter bridging the machines below. Matte black handles tying into the machine finish. Nothing floating, nothing fighting. Just a room that finally makes sense.

The family can do laundry without looking at a wall of products and random baskets. That's the whole point. A laundry room should work as hard as the people using it.

We do a lot of work in Mill Creek and across St. Johns County, and this kind of job is one of our favorites. Small space. Real impact. See more of our laundry room work here.

What Rochelle had to say

★★★★★
I found AVP through instagram. Despite some communication errors, the vision we had for our entertainment center exceeded our expectations. Artem and his crew did a fabulous job. They were punctual, meticulous, and responsive to our needs. I was surprised with their willingness to make sure our couches were covered and cleaned up after themselves. We highly recommend AVP and are planning on using them again for future projects!
