3D Accent Wall Installation in Seven Pines, Jacksonville FL — Seven Pines, Jacksonville, FL

The Project

Some walls just beg to be something more. In a two-story home in Seven Pines, Jacksonville, Florida, the soaring stairwell wall was exactly that — a massive canvas sitting right at the heart of the house, visible the moment you walk through the front door and from every landing above. The homeowners had a bold vision: cover it top to bottom in three-dimensional vinyl panels, paint the whole surface a deep, dramatic matte black, and finish it off with a custom neon sign bearing the family name. The result would be a true statement piece — the kind of accent wall that stops guests in their tracks.

The Challenge

This one started with a DIY attempt. The homeowners had noticed some imperfections in the drywall and tried patching the surface themselves — a reasonable first step. When that didn't go as planned, they decided to take things further and tackle the full 3D panel installation on their own. It didn't take long to realize this was a much bigger undertaking than anticipated. The wall stretched two full stories high, the staircase geometry made every measurement compound on the last, and getting panels flush and seamless across a surface that tall requires the kind of scaffolding setup most homeowners simply don't have access to. Smart call to reach out to us when they did.

As you can see in that before photo, the wall was a clean, flat drywall surface — completely blank, no panels, no color. The scaffolding was already staged and our crew was beginning the prep work. Everything needed to come together in the right sequence: paint first, panels second, neon last.

The Build

The key decision on this job — and it's one a lot of people overlook — was painting the entire wall black before a single panel went up. Three-dimensional vinyl panels have seams where they meet, and if the wall behind them is white or gray, that color bleeds through the gaps and kills the whole effect. By laying down a full coat of matte black first, we ensured the seams disappear completely into the surface. The texture reads as one continuous sculptural field rather than a grid of individual tiles.

With the paint dried and the scaffolding fully erected — you can see the multi-level yellow rig here, extending all the way up to the ceiling — the crew began setting the three-dimensional vinyl panels from the bottom up, working in careful rows. The geometric starburst pattern on these panels is intricate and repeating, so alignment matters enormously. Shift even slightly from panel to panel and the eye picks it up immediately. Every piece was checked against its neighbors before being committed to the wall.

Working at this height on a staircase adds real complexity. The floor plane below shifts with every step of the stair, the railing limits movement on one side, and reaching the upper sections of a two-story wall means trusting your scaffold setup completely. The panels were also cut to fit tight against the existing HVAC vent cutout in the wall, keeping that practical element cleanly integrated rather than awkwardly patched around.

Once all the panels were set and the seams reviewed, the homeowners' custom neon sign — reading "The Bohanons" in warm script — was mounted directly onto the panel surface, adding a personal, luminous touch right at eye level from the staircase landing. It's the detail that takes the whole wall from impressive to unforgettable. This is the kind of accent wall work that becomes the defining feature of a home.

The Result

Standing at the top of the stairs and looking down, the transformation is remarkable. What was once a plain flat surface is now a floor-to-ceiling matte black sculpture — hundreds of individual starburst facets catching the light from different angles, creating depth and movement that changes as you move through the space. The neon sign glows warmly against all that darkness, and the modern pendant light fixture hanging alongside the stairwell ties everything together into a cohesive, dramatic entryway.

Amazing work, very professional company. Very pleased with their work.

Cris SMoure left us a five-star review on Google, calling it "amazing work" from a "very professional company" — and that means a lot when the job involved scaffolding at ceiling height inside someone's home. We take that trust seriously on every project we touch in Seven Pines and across Jacksonville.

The before-to-after on this one is one of our favorites. A blank builder-grade wall in a Seven Pines home became the centerpiece of the entire interior — bold, personal, and built to last. This is exactly the kind of interior remodeling that changes how a family feels every time they come home.
